One person, one private chat
Zambian online life runs on WhatsApp and Facebook groups — people you already know. Meeting someone new usually means a video site where a stranger judges your face in two seconds. Chitmet is the quieter option: one random person, a private one-on-one chat, and nothing to see but your show name and, if you choose, your country.
Choose interests — Chipolopolo and the Premier League, Music, Business, Movies, Gaming, Church, Tech — and the overlap is shown to both of you the moment you connect. A good one? Send a Keep in touch request; it only becomes a friendship when the other person agrees.
Evenings, power cuts and time zones
With the country set to Zambia, roughly 8 pm to 11 pm is the busiest stretch — and when the lights go out for hours at a time, as they did for much of 2024, the queue fills earlier. If few Zambians are free, change the country filter from Strict to Preferred and matching reaches outwards gradually, usually to Zimbabwe, South Africa and Malawi first.
Zambia keeps Central Africa Time, the same as Johannesburg and Harare and three and a half hours behind India. Zambians studying or working in South Africa and the UK are online in their own evening too.
Money tricks and what stays private
A "wrong number" MTN MoMo or Airtel Money deposit that must be returned, a scholarship or job that needs a small fee first, a romance that is suddenly short of airtime: all of these are tricks, and none has any place on Chitmet. Nobody here needs your mobile money PIN, your NRC number or a kwacha from you — Report and Block the person who asks, and the moderators follow up.
The other person sees your show name and gender, and your country only if you choose to show it — never your number. Voice calls are not recorded, media only arrives after you allow it, and the service is for adults only.
