Why Swahili speakers like it
Most random-chat sites match the whole world at once, so a Tanzanian ends up typing English to someone who does not speak it well either. Chitmet has Swahili as a proper filter: choose it and the person on the other side speaks Swahili too, whether they are in Mwanza, Mombasa or Kampala.
The chat itself is private and one-on-one — no public room, no crowd. Add interests like Bongo Flava, Simba or Yanga, Business, Movies, Faith or Tech and Chitmet shows what you share when you connect. If you click, send a Keep in touch request; you only become friends if the other person accepts.
When Tanzania is online
With the country set to Tanzania, about 9 pm to midnight is the busiest time. If the local queue is quiet, choose Preferred instead of Strict and Chitmet starts with Tanzania, then widens the search step by step while you wait — usually to Kenya and Uganda first when Swahili is your language.
Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar run on East Africa Time, as do Nairobi, Kampala and the Gulf, two and a half hours behind India. Leave the country open in the evening and the East Africans working in Dubai, Doha and Muscat are online too.
Pesa and privacy
The old tricks have a Tanzanian accent — a mistaken M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa or Airtel Money deposit you are begged to return, a job in Dubai that needs a fee first. There is nothing on Chitmet that requires a PIN, a NIDA number or a payment, so anyone asking is the trick itself: Report and Block, and the moderators deal with them.
The person you talk to never sees your phone number, calls are not recorded, and media (photos, voice notes) only comes through once you have allowed it. Chitmet is 18+ only.
