What we looked at
Each service’s own website or app listing, read in late October and early November 2026. We asked four questions for Bangladesh: does it work in Bangla (a language filter, or at least a way to find Bangladeshis), does it need a camera, does it need an account or a phone number, and how much data does it eat. We make Chitmet, so we are not neutral; where another service is the better fit we say so, and the no-camera services each have a side-by-side page.
| Service | Bangla / Bangladesh | Camera | Sign-up | Data use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chitmet | Bengali in the language filter, Bangladesh in the country filter — free | Never | None | Text: almost nothing. Voice: tens of MB an hour |
| HearMe Chat | No language filter listed; country filter is Premium | Never | None | Text or voice |
| TalkLive | No language filter listed; 2 preferred countries free | None | None | Voice: "tens of megabytes an hour" (its site) |
| Joingy | No filters — random | Webcam or text mode | None | Text mode is light; video is heavy |
| Emerald Chat | Interest matching, no language filter | Text, video or group | See its site; Emerald Gold is a paid tier | Text mode is light |
| Chatrandom | Location filter is paid (Plus) | Video, with a text-only option | See its site | Text-only option is light |
| Y99 | Rooms by topic | Optional video rooms | None — guest | Rooms are light |
| Monkey | No language filter | Yes — 15-second video calls | Name, age, gender, phone number | Video is heavy |
Bangla first: where the language filter exists
Of the eight, only Chitmet lets you choose Bengali as a language and be matched with other Bengali speakers — which puts you with people in Bangladesh and West Bengal, and with the Bangladeshi diaspora in the Gulf, Malaysia, the UK and Italy when you leave the country filter open. Set the country filter to Bangladesh and the language to Bengali for a Dhaka-to-Sylhet conversation; set the language only and you will meet Kolkata too.
Everywhere else you find Bangla speakers by country (TalkLive’s two free preferred countries, Chatrandom’s paid location filter) or by luck. Typed chats are mostly Banglish — "kemon acho", "kothay theke" — and that works on every site; voice calls are where a language filter really earns its place, because you cannot skim a call the way you skim a first message.
No camera, no account: the three to try first
The services that need neither a webcam nor a sign-up — which is most of what people in Bangladesh ask for.
- Chitmet (chitmet.gg) — Random one-on-one text chat; either person can turn it into an audio-only call when both accept. Free country, language, interest, topic and mood filters with a Vibe Match score; Keep in Touch after a good chat; Skip, Report and Block, automatic spam and scam-link checks, human moderators; 18+. The gender filter and sending photos or voice notes are the paid extras. Best for: Bangla, no camera, no app.
- HearMe Chat (hearme.chat) — Voice or text with one stranger at a time, no camera, no sign-up, an Android app on Google Play, and a moderation queue where every report is read by a person. Calls are not recorded apart from a 60-second clip when someone reports. Best for: a random voice call with a visible safety policy. Watch out for: the gender and country filters cost $4.99–$9.99 a month.
- TalkLive (talklive.app) — Tap to call and a random adult’s browser rings; text chat works without a microphone. Free: unlimited calls, a gender filter, two preferred and two avoided countries, friends, streaks and a daily question. Best for: voice calls with a streak to keep. Watch out for: an "Online Now" list shows names, gender and country before you talk.
Text mode on video sites, rooms, and Monkey
Useful if you want the bigger crowd of a video site but not the camera.
- Joingy (joingy.com) — A free, browser-based random chat site running since 2018: pick webcam or text, no registration, flag a user after a chat ends. No filters. Best for: a plain text roulette.
- Emerald Chat (emeraldchat.com) — One-on-one text, one-on-one video and group chat with interest matching, a karma system and a paid Emerald Gold tier. Best for: interest-based text chat with a bigger pool.
- Chatrandom (chatrandom.com) — Random webcam chat since 2011 with a text-only option for people without a camera, themed rooms and apps; gender and location filters are in the paid Plus plan. Best for: text when the video crowd is what you want.
- Y99 (y99.in) — Public topic rooms open to guests, browser games, a shared whiteboard and watch-together videos. Best for: a group at midnight. Watch out for: rooms are public.
- Monkey (monkey.app) — 15-second video calls both people can extend, sign-up by name, age, gender and phone number, with paid Monkey Plus and coins. Watch out for: the most personal data asked up front, and it needs your camera.
Staying safe, and where to report in Bangladesh
The scams follow the same script everywhere: a stranger asks for a bKash or Nagad transfer, a "fee" for a job or a visa, an OTP, or moves you to WhatsApp or Imo and then threatens to share a screenshot or a recording. Never send money or a code to someone you met in a chat, never show your face on a video call with a stranger, and keep your number out of it — that is the whole point of the no-camera services above.
If you are harassed or blackmailed, report the person on the site, keep screenshots, and call the national emergency number 999. Women can also contact the Bangladesh Police’s Police Cyber Support for Women unit on its hotline 01320000888, launched in November 2020 to take complaints about online harassment.
