How we compared them
For each service we read its own website or app listing in October 2026 and noted what decides whether you will enjoy it in India: is a camera required, do you have to sign up, can you find people who speak your language, and what costs money. Prices and features change, so check each site before paying.
One honest disclosure: we make Chitmet, so we are not neutral. We have tried to describe every service fairly, including where another one is the better choice — and each has a detailed side-by-side page.

Text and voice, without a camera
For people who want to talk, not be seen — the most common wish we hear from Indian users, and the easiest on a small data pack.
- Chitmet (chitmet.gg) — Random one-on-one text chat; either person can turn it into an audio-only call when both accept. No sign-up, no phone number, no video mode at all. Free interest, country and language filters — Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Odia, Assamese, Urdu, Nepali and Sinhala among 32 languages — and Keep in Touch to add someone you clicked with. Best for: Hinglish chats and regional languages. Watch out for: no video, by design.
- AirTalk (airtalk.live) — A voice-first random chat site, running since 2022, with text added later. No sign-up and no camera; you can prefer or exclude countries, and its text chat offers icebreaker questions and blocks links and social handles at send. No language filter. Best for: quick random voice calls.
- Y99 (y99.in) — Public chat rooms for every topic, from Music and Gaming to English Learning, open to guests without registration, with games, a shared whiteboard and watch-together videos. Best for: group conversation. Watch out for: everything in a room is public.
Video apps
If you want to see the other person, these are built for it — and need your camera.
- Chitchat (chitchat.gg) — A large random chat site for text and video with interest, gender and region filters, photo and video sharing and a friends list. Best for: a busy all-in-one site.
- Azar (azarlive.com) — A face-to-face video chat app by Hyperconnect (Match Group). It learns who you enjoy talking to; gender and region filters are paid with Gems. Best for: video on a phone.
- OmeTV (ome.tv) — Live random video chat with country selection and built-in message translation. Not connected to the original Omegle. Best for: fast video matching across countries.
- Monkey (monkey.app) — 15-second video calls that both people can extend. Sign-up asks for your name, age, gender and phone number; text chat and match preferences are paid. Watch out for: the most personal data asked up front.
Staying safe on any of them
The scams that hit Indian users are the same everywhere: someone asks for a UPI payment, a "processing fee" for a job or a visa, an OTP, or moves you to WhatsApp and then threatens to share a screenshot or video. Never send money or a code to someone you met in a chat, and do not show your face or share personal photos with a stranger.
Choose a service that is clearly 18+, has Report and Block in every chat, and does not ask for more personal data than it needs. If something goes wrong, report it on the site, block the person, and report cyber fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or by calling 1930.
