Assamese speakers at home and away
Most people who pick Assamese are in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur, Nagaon, Tinsukia and Sivasagar, and many study or work in Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkata. Upper Assam and Lower Assam speech sounds different, and plenty of people grew up with Bodo, Mising or Karbi at home as well.
Leave the country open to meet Assamese speakers everywhere, or set India with Strict. Type in Assamese script or Roman Assamese — both are fine.
What to talk about
Bohag Bihu in April and the Magh Bihu feast, Zubeen Garg’s songs, football and cricket, tea-garden towns, Kaziranga and Majuli trips, the Brahmaputra in the monsoon, Assamese films and the touring mobile theatre, pitha, khar and masor tenga. Add interests such as Music, Sports or Travel and the Vibe Match score shows what you share.
Assamese or Bengali?
Assamese and Bengali share a script with a couple of differences — Assamese writes ৰ and ৱ — and a lot of words, but they are separate languages and they sound different. They are separate options in the filter. If the Assamese queue is quiet, Chitmet widens the search while you wait; Bengali or Hindi are good second choices for a lot of people in the Northeast.
Talk instead of typing
Once you both accept, the chat can become an audio-only call in the browser — nobody sees a phone number, there is no camera, and Chitmet does not record calls.
Stay careful
Online "jobs" that ask for a registration fee, loan apps that want your contact list and messages asking you to "verify" a bank account are all scams. Never share an OTP or UPI PIN with someone from a chat; report and block them.
