Chatrandom vs Chitmet: what you get for free
Chatrandom’s free tier is random matching, mostly on webcam, with ads. Its help pages say you can join without a camera and use text-only chat, but that turning your webcam on usually leads to more matches and longer chats. The filters most people want — gender and location — plus private chat and an ad-free experience come with Plus, which the US App Store lists at $6.99 a week or $19.99 a month.
Chitmet’s free tier is the core product: private one-on-one text chat, random voice calls, interest, country and language filters, Skip, Report and Block, and a few seconds to undo an accidental skip. Premium adds the gender filter and a few extras. Safety tools are never paid.
Why no webcam changes the experience
Webcam roulette rewards whoever is on camera, which is why camera-first sites nudge you to switch yours on. Chitmet removes that pressure entirely. You match by text, and when a conversation is going well either of you can invite the other to an audio-only call. It starts only when both accept, is not recorded by Chitmet (only a reported call’s last few minutes reach moderators, deleted after 7 days), and holds up on mobile data where video stutters.
Photos, videos and voice notes only come through after the other person allows media, so nothing unexpected lands in your chat. Automated checks flag spam, scam links and phone-number fishing in real time, and human moderators review reports. Chitmet is 18+ only.
Where Chatrandom is the better fit
If you want video — with face filters and effects, themed chat rooms or a dedicated Gay Chat section — Chatrandom offers far more of that than Chitmet, which has no video and no public rooms at all. It also has native Android and iOS apps, while Chitmet runs in the browser. If you came to Chatrandom to talk rather than to be seen, Chitmet will feel lighter.
